Dysphagia (吞嚥困難)

In speech therapy, we not only focus on communication abilities but also on swallowing.

Many elderly individuals begin to experience muscle degeneration, or they may suffer from other conditions (such as stroke, head injuries, Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, etc.) that lead to various types of swallowing difficulties. Speech therapists will assess each individual's clinical situation and provide recommendations and treatment.

If you notice that your elderly friends are starting to have difficulty drinking or eating, or showing other symptoms of swallowing difficulties, remember to suggest that they consult a doctor or a speech therapist.
